Minutes after being harvested, these permanent follicles are part of a hair transplant procedure and will be used to restore coverage to an area of baldness or thinning.
Floating in chilled Hypothermosol (an advanced storage solution), these follicles were extracted by Dr. Alan Bauman using NeoGraft are awaiting transplantation and are visible here under magnification. Each graft will fit into a site in the scalp that is less than 1.0mm wide x 5mm deep. Approximately 1000 to 4000 grafts can be transplanted per session, an average of 1500-2000 per day. Over 98% of the transplanted grafts will eventually produce hair.
Manual FUE grafts from years gone by were notoriously transected, meaning that fewer than 2.4 hair follicles per follicular unit were harvested. Today, with the help of NeoGraft, FUE grafts can be harvested accurately and easily keeping the "follicular unit" of one, two or three follicles completely intact. Grafts are kept in solution designed for organ transplantation, so there is no chance of dessication (drying out).
NeoGraft FUE allows for no linear scar, less discomfort and faster recovery than traditional 'linear' or 'strip' harvest procedures. The follicles, once implanted, live and grow permanently in the recipient area of the scalp.
As with any transplant, the key to naturalness is the angle, orientation and position of the transplanted follicles, designed by the surgeon.
