Does jumping cause patellar tendinitis?
Yes, it can. Jumping itself isn’t bad, but when it’s done repetitively without enough recovery, it can overload the patellar tendon, leading to inflammation—what we call patellar tendinitis.
This is especially common in athletes like NBA players, who place extreme demands on their bodies. They jump, land, and change direction with high force—often faster than their bodies can recover. As a result, they experience repeated episodes of patellar tendinitis, which over time can progress to patellar tendinosis—a more chronic and degenerative condition.
Both the quadriceps tendon and the patellar tendon play a huge role in explosive movements like jumping and sudden stops. When those tendons are overused and under-recovered, that’s when problems start.
At Victory in Motion, we focus on regenerative and minimally invasive surgical options to help you recover.
Let’s repair the knee, not replace it.
