Описание: Gnaeus Pompeius Magnus was more than just a consul of Rome. The great politician and general redefined what it was to be a leader in the late republic, standing almost without equal not just among his peers but even within the great pantheon of Roman heroes.

But in a tragic turn, it would be Pompey's own attachment to this status that helped plunge the Republic into civil war and would lead to his own tragic death after his defeat at the battle of Pharsalus.

This history documentary explores how ideology and ego drove a man like Pompey towards his inevitable end. Romans believed that a man of stature and accomplishments deserved a noble, dignified death - but Pompey would meet his end on a distant Egyptian shore betrayed and abandoned. He was a consul of Rome, but that meant nothing to those who cut him down.
