This is a Federal Signal Thunderbolt siren mounted on top of Murray Hall at the University of St. Thomas in Saint Paul, Minnesota. It was activated at 1:45pm, Thursday, April 19, 2012, as part of a state wide simulation for Severe Weather Awareness week. It was one of the last times it will sound as St. Paul is replacing these with newer models and removing them from private structures. The replacement has been installed to the northwest on the corner of Cretin and Selby. Since it was a severe weather simulation "Attack Mode" did not sound.
** UPDATE: 12/5/2012 **
I noticed today that the siren has been removed. There was a similar one along I-94 near Hamline Ave which today I noticed was removed either yesterday or late last week. That prompted me to check the one on Murray-Herrick. I can only assume it was removed within the last few weeks.
