Tension spread in the Simanagar area under Chapra police station on Tuesday evening after an altercation between the police and BSF personnel over the cough syrup. A police officer and another person were injured and admitted to Chapra Rural Hospital. Following the incident, the police arrested one BSF jawan.

According to the police, they first received information about the smuggling operation. Acting on the tip-off, they intercepted the consignment and began seizing the illegal cough syrup. At that point, BSF personnel allegedly tried to interfere, leading to a scuffle. A case has been filed, and two policemen were injured.

Sources said a vehicle carrying the cough syrup was coming from the Karimpur side toward Chapra. Acting on confidential information, Chapra police set up a checkpoint in Simanagar. On seeing the police, the smugglers fled, leaving the vehicle behind. When the police began seizing the bottles of cough syrup, several BSF jawans from the nearby Simanagar BSF camp arrived and allegedly tried to take custody of the seized items. When the police resisted, an argument broke out that escalated into a physical altercation.

It is alleged that at one point, a police officer was beaten with an iron rod. The incident caused significant tension in the area, prompting senior officials from both the police and the BSF to rush to the spot.

However, no official response has yet been received from the BSF regarding the incident.
