In July 2026, the DWP is completing a major migration of state pension records that will trigger recalculations for anyone with a "mixed contribution history" — which covers most people who retired before 2016 and a large share of those who retired after. Some payments will go up. Some will go down. And if your payment is going down, you only have 21 days to challenge it before the lower amount takes effect.
Alongside that, HMRC is rolling out a new state pension tax account for pensioners whose income is above the personal allowance but who don't have a large enough private pension to collect the tax through PAYE — meaning a direct tax bill may land on your doormat for the first time. And anyone on savings credit could see that payment reduced, in some cases to zero.
In this video I break down all three changes, what they mean for your specific situation, and the exact steps to take before the end of July.
