Cute, but an invasive species in Ireland, bank voles were likely introduced between 1925 and 1929. Given that they were only first noticed in 1964, in Co. Kerry, this seems surprisingly specific.
Analysis of the bank voles' range in Ireland, and the rate at which they spread suggested that they had been present in the area for some time before 1964. DNA analysis (published in 2007) shows them to be closely related to bank voles from west Germany. Britain is our nearest neighbour with native bank voles, so a German connection might be unexpected, but the German company, Siemens-Schuckert built the Ardnacrusha hydroelectric power plant in Co. Clare, and would have transported heavy machinery, including earth moving equipment, from Germany at the time of its construction (1925-1929). It seems that bank voles were most likely brought over accidentally with the equipment.
