In this lovely song Christian rests in The Arbour upon The Hill of Difficulty.
This is NOT taken from Ralph Vaughan Williams' opera "The Pilgrim's Progress" but his incidental music for an earlier unabridged radio production of Bunyan's famous allegorical romance.
The music from the radio-play was postumously rearranged into a shorter mainly musical work; not unlike a Pilgrim's Progress concept album, this was dubbed "The Pilgrim's Progress:A Bunyan Sequence". John Gielgud read Christian both in the original 1942 radio production and also in the 1990 restaging from which this offering is taken.
Matthew Best conducts the city of London Sinfonia and the Corydon Singers.
