When an Aussie says "hammer down," it most commonly means to go faster, accelerate, or put in maximum effort—especially in the context of driving or getting something done quickly. The phrase evokes the image of pressing the accelerator pedal all the way down.
This is from the bow of "Obsession" on Memorial Day 2025. We are truly 'hammer down' in a brisk southerly wind, heading for Alki Point on the beginning of our two hour sail on Elliot Bay Seattle WA.
It is always a treat being on a powerful 70' Maxi sailboat blasting upwind. We are following the path of the sun diamonds at 5:00 pm in the late afternoon sunlight. Always a special time of day to be on the water. So glad you could be with us briefly.
