Knee Pain Isn’t Always About the Knee—Listen to Your Body
A client of mine, Jane, came to me with knee pain. She’d been training for years, but her body was sending signals she hadn’t been listening to.
Pain is Your Body’s Way of Talking to You.
When you exercise, small discomforts are easy to ignore.
But often, these are signs of an imbalance. Jane’s pain wasn’t just in her knee; it was her body’s way of pointing out a weak muscle or alignment issue that needed attention.
Three Practical Tips to Stay Pain-Free:
👉🏽 1. Introduce Muscle Activation Techniques in your Warm-Up routine:
Add simple activation exercises, like glute bridges or banded side steps, to your warm-up. These prep your muscles to work efficiently during your workout, protecting your knees and other joints from overcompensation.
👉🏽 2. Use Form Cues During Lifts:
Tune in to how your body feels as you move. Small adjustments—like keeping your weight balanced or focusing on your stance—can keep pain at bay and ensure you're working the right muscles.
👉🏽 3. Tune In to Discomfort:
If you feel recurring tightness or strain, don’t push through it. These signals might mean a muscle imbalance that needs attention. Pausing to reassess can prevent bigger issues down the line.
What Can You Do?
Next time you feel an ache or tightness, pause. Are certain muscles not engaging as they should? Are you shifting movements to avoid discomfort?
A movement assessment can help you understand these signals and pinpoint imbalances. If you’re ready to listen to your body and train smarter, let’s chat
