VNEXT: Virtual NEtwork management for Xen-based Testbeds

The VNEXT manages and controls virtual networks based on the Xen platform. The goal is to assist network administrators to perform decision making, because, using network virtualization, management becomes a challenge even harder than managing the current Internet. The proposed system has a simple and friendly user interface and, with a few mouse clicks, the administrator is able to turn on, turn off and migrate virtual routers, define virtual networks, and monitor these networks. The administrator can also perform high-level decisions, such as redefine the virtual network topology by using the loss-free live migration functionality, which can be further used to save energy by shutting down physical routers.
The Internet faces many challenges, like supporting innovation, security issues, management and mobility. To solve these challenges and propose a new Internet, able to fulfill the actual and future demands, we propose the Horizon project. The Horizon is a bi-national project, led in Brazil by GTA/COPPE/UFRJ and in France by LIP6/UPMC. The project aims to solve network management and visualization issues because through a good visualization of the network, the management tasks become easier. Therefore, The VNEXT system development started in the context of Horizon Project.
