The danger of last frost is over and it is time to transplant tomatoes to outside vegetable garden. Any tomato plants from the garden centres or my own plants from seeds grown on windowsill are still very delicate. And I can accidentally brake precious specimens. Normally gardeners just get so upset and crying up loud throw broken plants in to waste basket. But not me! Juicy tomatoes plants just look weak but can grow new roots and develop good root system very fast. IF my broken stems not completely disconnected I simply lay the whole plant down and cover it with layer of soil. You will be surprised but just in 5-6 days new side roots start growing and broken tomato plant recover very fast. If I happened to have completely broken stem, not a problem at al and not a reason to be disappointed. I just put broken part in vase with water and if there is a side shoots on the leftover roots part I plant it too. Tomato plant grow new roots with amazing speed for just few days the new roots system will be developed enough so I can successfully plant it in the garden. No root hormone or anything special required just a jar with clean water and sunny spot.
