Biography

Louis John Pinto, better known to all as 'Gumby', is one of the most recognized, accomplished, and respected music artists in the Pakistani music industry as well as within select independent music circles in Western Europe and North America. His depth of talent and sincerity to his music can be judged from the respect he commands from fellow peers, critics, and fans alike. He has grown to be a national icon and inspiration owing to his work ethic, dedication and commitment to excellence. A bright hope for the industry and his country, Gumby's rise to the top represents the rewards possible with hard work, skill, talent and a singular devotion to music.

Widely renowned as a child prodigy, Gumby's journey started in 1986 at the tender age of ten when he was gifted his first drum kit. An exploring sense of adventure, coupled with a keen interest in good music and the burning desire to play it was all that he needed to pave the way for his future. He cites artists like Pat Metheny, Donald Fagen, Jaco Pastorius, Chick Corea Rush, Stevie Wonder, Frank Zappa among
others as his early musical influences that have proven to stay with him over the years. With this repertoire of musical tastes that range from the jazz standards of Coltrane to the fusion rock of Steely Dan and scooping up everything in between and even beyond, Gumby's understanding of how music works makes him nothing less than an institution in his own right. Guitar player Amir Zaki played an important role in recognizing Gumby's raw talent at an early stage and then honing it, helping him develop the basics while evolving his own signature sound, style and feel. His early years as a drummer were spent performing with a diverse line-up of musicians in an even more diverse line-up of bands and gigs. This gave Gumby the early advantage that most musicians spend a lifetime acquiring, the chance to grasp and execute with prowess a wide selection of musical styles from a fundamental level. These were Gumby's most favourite times; he would spend his days practicing and rehearsing
as his inborn talent blossomed further each day. Still young, still in school, Gumby made the definitive decision to pursue music as a profession and focus all his time towards it.
