Analysis | The UK has shot down an Iranian missile heading towards British troops in Iraq, as hundreds of UK personnel came within 200 metres of a separate strike in Bahrain.
Around 300 British troops were stationed at a US naval base in Bahrain when Iranian missiles and drones targeted the site, while forces in Iraq were also forced to intercept an incoming weapon aimed at a coalition base.
The close calls come as Iran launches waves of retaliatory attacks across the Middle East following US and Israeli “major combat operations,” with UK bases in Cyprus, Bahrain and Iraq placed on heightened alert.
