Описание: In this talk, Kayla discusses the concept of other religions and how to get along -- not by only focusing on the similarities and connections, but on the differences in practice as well, with some reference to Thomas Merton's writings on Unity. Kayla feels this is extremely relevant in our community today, since we do have a vibrant interfaith community here in Louisville. We need to affirm the truth in others in order to discover our own truth, and full uniformity takes away the distinctiveness that makes us all who we are. By looking at others and respecting our differences and learning from each other's doctrines, we can all relate on spiritual experience, even if we do not worship the same deity or believe in the same final "destination." Defining ourselves as what we're not is not defining ourselves at all. By looking at these other traditions and learning from each other, we learn about ourselves and can have an impact on others. By loving our differences, we become stronger, since it is "simple" to love those that are extremely similar to us, and those we boil down into a single concept. Kayla Martin is a senior at Bellarmine University and plans to attend graduate school for Theology abroad in the fall. She is a passionate student of both Theology and Political Science and focuses mainly on interfaith/ecumenical dialogue and world religions. Kayla aspires to be a Theology professor so that she can help others understand their neighbors better. Outside of her studies, she is a big fan of U2, works at a no-kill animal shelter, and enjoys traveling. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
