FOTU 2025! A Festival Of The Unexceptional 2025 walkaround

Описание: Join me on my visit to FOTU 2025 (Festival Of The Unexceptional 2025), a unique car show that celebrates the oft-overlooked lower-spec and un-glamorous cars of the 1970s through to the 2000s. More L than Ghia, more 1.1L than 2.8i, where the luxury of a passenger door mirror, a rear wiper, a cassette player and even seat head restraints could not be guaranteed in a car's factory spec.
This was my first visit to the Festival Of The Unexceptional, a classic car show that I'd been meaning to visit for years. In 2025 it finally happened. The turnout was HUGE at the 2025 FOTU with hundreds of cars piling into the grounds of Grimsthorpe Castle, many being very rare survivors of what were once pretty common cars. A banquet of beige if you like, cars that people can typically relate to over the more exotic and luxurious models that often turn up at classic car events. FOTU is very much aimed at the plain-Jane vanilla cars of yesteryear, and as a result was a fascinating walk back in time. A select few parked directly in front of the castle to take part in the Concours de l'Ordinaire, a best-of-the-best competition to choose an overall car of the show.
To pick one favourite car would be very very tricky, but I was amazed by the Belgian-registered Lada Samara convertible that appeared amidst the various British Leyland cars, Datsuns, Hyundais, FIATs, Fords, Vauxhalls, Toyotas, Hondas and, yes, even a few more Ladas. A shout-out too for the super-scarce (in the UK at least) GAZ Volga.
