"All of this has provoked an intense pain in all the citizens of Andalusia, of Spain. Firstly, we were not expecting it, because of its pain and cruelty. It has left a broken family, they are completely broken. He (Valencia) was a person who was loved, who was valued and with a strong dedication, not only to the church, but dedicated to all his neighbours. STORYLINE:
The funeral for the church worker killed in a machete attack in the Spanish city of Algeciras took place on Friday.

Sacristan Diego Valencia was killed after he prepared for Wednesday night Mass at the Church of Nuestra Senora de La Palma.

The head of the regional government attended the funeral, saying Valencia's murder had provoked "an intense pain".

A man is being held in connection with the killing, as well as another attack on a church in the city that same night.

Four people were injured in that attack, including a priest.

The National Police have asked for two more days to interrogate the 25-year-old Moroccan before he has to face a judge.
