Most consignments of animals, animal products and products of non-animal origin from non-EU countries must come through a Border Control Post (BCP), previously known as a Border Inspection Post (BIP). Such products must undergo certain veterinary checks in accordance with European Directives. These rules apply to both commercial and personal traffic.

Abbreviations for animals
LA - Live animals
U - Ungulates other than registered equidae
E - Registered equidae
O - Other animals other than Ungulates
Abbreviations for products of animal origin
POA - Products of animal origin, composite products, germinal products, animal by-products, hay and straw
HC - Products for human consumption
NHC - Products not for human consumption
NT - No temperature requirement
T - Frozen/chilled products
T(CH) - Chilled products
Abbreviations for goods of non-animal origin
PNAO - Products of non-animal origin
HC (food) - Food of non-animal origin covered by conditions or measures referred to in Annex 2 of Regulation (EU) 2019/1014
NHC (food) - Feed of non-animal origin covered by conditions or measures referred to in Annex 2 of Regulation (EU) 2019/1014
NHC (other) - Products of non-animal origin
NT - No temperature requirement
T - Frozen/chilled products
T(FR) - Frozen products
T(CH) - Chilled products
