In December 2024, a high-speed pursuit spanning two countries began when 42-year-old Shawn Douglas Bergstrom allegedly carjacked a Toyota pickup at machete-point in Richmond, British Columbia. Fleeing south, Bergstrom smashed through the Peace Arch border crossing in Blaine, Washington, nearly striking a U.S. Border Patrol officer.
The pursuit reached speeds of over 100 mph as the suspect led Washington State Patrol (WSP), Whatcom County Sheriff's deputies, and CBP air assets on a dangerous chase down Interstate 5. This video covers:
