Hardwick was built by Bess of Hardwick, who was Born on the site of Hardwick Old Hall, Bess rose to a position of great power within Elizabethan society .
Rising from a modest background to become a friend of Elizabeth I and one of the richest women of her time rising to a position of wealth and power. She survived four husbands and built two magnificent and innovative houses side by side at Hardwick.
We take the oppurtunity to find out a little more about this amazing Elizabethan icon.
