È entrato nel vivo il progetto “RePAIR”, acronimo di Reconstructing the past: Artificial Intelligence and Robotics meet Cultural Heritage, che grazie a una tecnologia d’avanguardia, contribuirà alla ricomposizione delle migliaia di frammenti degli affreschi della Casa dei Pittori al lavoro e della Schola Armaturarum, conservati nei depositi del Parco archeologico di Pompei.
Frammenti, come piccole tessere di un puzzle, saranno risistemati con l’ausilio dell’intelligenza artificiale e di una infrastruttura robotica, dotata di braccia meccaniche in grado di scansionare i frammenti, riconoscerli tramite un sistema di digitalizzazione 3D e restituirgli la giusta collocazione. Il progetto, partito a settembre 2021, che avrà la durata complessiva di 4 anni, ha registrato in questi mesi una serie di incontri di confronto e studio tra gli esperti di settore per individuare le soluzioni più efficaci e identificare eventuali criticità nell'esecuzione del progetto, come quello che si è svolto a giugno 2022 presso l’Auditorium del Parco Archeologico di Pompei.

ENGLISH VERSION. Pompeii, technology and restorations: the RePair project comes alive

The "RePAIR" project, acronym for Reconstructing the past: Artificial Intelligence and Robotics meet Cultural Heritage, has come to life, which thanks to cutting-edge technology, will contribute to the recomposition of the thousands of fragments of the frescoes of the House of Painters at work and Schola Armaturarum, preserved in the deposits of the Archaeological Park of Pompeii.
Fragments, like small pieces of a puzzle, will be rearranged with the help of artificial intelligence and a robotic infrastructure, equipped with mechanical arms capable of scanning the fragments, recognizing them through a 3D digitization system and returning them to the right location. The project, which started in September 2021, which will have a total duration of 4 years, has in recent months recorded a series of meetings for comparison and study between sector experts to identify the most effective solutions and identify any critical issues in the execution of the project. , like the one that took place in June 2022 at the Auditorium of the Archaeological Park of Pompeii.
