The UK mountains have been a bit miserable, weather-wise, the last few weeks so this is the first of a couple of lower level trips I've made.

The cliffs at Flamborough Head, extending down to the North Landing at Flamborough, are spectacular, and as well as looking for interesting species, I wanted to to try out some new camera gear and editing methods.

This is my first complete Ultra HD video and I was lucky to have a beach full of grey seals to film, but also, unexpectedly, a cliff full of guillemots. Guillemots are not normally resident at this time of year, but sometimes come ashore briefly when conditions out at sea are not great for them. This must have been one of those days! More interestingly, they were in their summer plumage, months earlier than they would usually be.

There are also two historical lighthouses set on the high chalk cliffs of Flamborough Head. The oldest was built in 1674 and is the earliest known lighthouse still in existence in the UK. The other was commissioned in 1806 and stands 27 metres high. It cost £8,000 to build and initially used a clockwork mechanism to rotate an oil lamp as a warning beacon. In 1925 the tower was raised to its present height of 85 feet, and in 1992 a 1000 Watt halogen bulb was installed.

This video was filmed over 2 days, at both high and low tide, hence the varying water levels.
