About a year ago I began to hear God’s voice in a deeper way. On paper I had everything—stable role, six-figure salary, a team—yet the quiet place in my heart where God speaks was getting drowned out by noise, anxiety, and the pressure to be “responsible.” As a husband and father of four, I told myself the noble thing was to bury the creative impulse God put in me. But every time I got still, that call returned: This is how I made you. Create with Me.

In this video I share three lessons from that journey. First, society is Neil’s father (shoutout Dead Poets Society). If you feel called to the arts, few voices will encourage it; most will nudge you toward safer lanes. I lived that tension in college and early career, trying to fit paths that weren’t mine. Naming the pressure matters—so you can meet it with courage, not confusion.

Second, you have to operate from peace. Years ago I jumped into creative work—music videos, directing, real opportunities—and it “worked” by external measures. But the fruit was off: spiritual dryness, strain in marriage, burnout. Calling without communion leads to chaos. Before you sprint, let God restore you to stillness so your work grows from prayer, not panic.

Third, don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater. A hard season doesn’t mean the call was a mistake. After some healing, God re-awakened the desire. He planted a seed at a Christian creators conference, and soon after my “dream job” unraveled. I filmed “Are You Running from God’s Creative Calling?” in the rubble—and that honest video caught fire, igniting this channel and opening a new path.
