Finding My Birth Mother on Facebook

I didn’t even
mean to. This
shouldn’t be so
easy. So many years
since the last photo and there
you are: abroad, on white sand,
in a floaty pool shirt. Why
that one? Why not one at home?
Is this the real you: unencumbered, away from
it all? There’s more: licking gelato at St Mark’s
Basilica; posing at a party with
your sons. My brothers.
The legend reads: ‘All the fam
together.’ I don’t know
anything about you.
I’ve never even heard
your voice. Is that
a sadness in your eyes?
Or am I only looking
for myself?
