A new dramatic chapter has been added to the hotly debated political arena of Bangladesh. The Central Intelligence Cell of the National Board of Revenue (CIC) and the joint investigation team of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) have recovered a huge amount of gold from the bank locker of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who was sentenced to death for crimes against humanity.

With the permission of the court, two lockers of Sheikh Hasina located at the head office of Agrani Bank—numbered 751 and 753—were opened in the presence of a magistrate on Tuesday. Upon opening the two lockers, 832.5 bhori of gold was found. A senior CIC official and the magistrate in charge, who were present at the scene, confirmed the truth of the matter.
