Psalm 91 became my prayer one day. As I pressed in, my desire was formed by this passage. I wanted to dwell… To abide… to inhabit this secret place, otherwise translated as a hiding place.

This song was ultimately inspired by Psalm 91, but it came from a journal entry in which I declared over myself the truth I found in the pages of my Bible. I was a single parent, coming more fully into my faith and life was a struggle at times… lonely and just tired of doing it all on my own all the time and recognized doing things my way wasn’t leading to the life I had hoped for, though hope was not lost.

One morning, as I read Psalm 91, it was as if a veil has lifted and I realized that was what I wanted. If the one who dwells in the secret place of the Most High gets to abide under His Shadow, if the one who loves and knows His Name would be saved and protected… That’s what I wanted.

So, I took my journal and I penned the verses of this passage from a personal perspective. As a Child of God, it was mine to have, mine to claim, mine to walk in.

I dwell in the shelter of the Most High.
I rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
He saved me.
He covers me with love.
I find my refuge in His Wings.

The Word of God delivers.

After I met Thad, I shared this entry and the beginnings of this song. I only had parts of the song written. When he went to church the next Sunday, he saw a pamphlet that had Psalm 91 boldly on the cover and he began to hear the chorus…

I say all this to let it be known the things God has done in my life and the ways He has brought me to His Truth and delivered me. This is not for my glory, but for HIS alone. I only want to share His Light with the hope that the same love that set me free would reach others.

If you are facing a struggle, just know that there is a hiding place where you can find refuge, strength, protection, a place where you don’t need to fear but can find confidence just by knowing you are His.
