Old Farmhouse Garden

Rachel and Mark Helfer bought the old house, then derelict, in 1960. Their describe it as having a vegetable garden of virgin heavy clay and a flower garden of sloping wilderness with some apple trees at the bottom. Rachel’s upbringing with an organic gardener for a father and a mother who was a great nature-lover had obviously given her the urge to work with – and achieve the best from – what was naturally available.
