If this was the case, then why did the Jewish authorities stone Stephen to death without any outside interference from the Roman regime? Also, if the Jewish authorities had no power to sentence anyone to death, then why all of the fear of Saul? If Jews couldn’t execute Jesus without Rome, how did they stone Stephen—and why fear Saul?
