's-Hertogenbosch also known as 'Den Bosch' is the capital of the province of Brabant in the Netherlands. The municipality of 's-Hertogenbosch has approximately 155,000 citizens. Des Hertogen Bosch means in Dutch 'the forest of the Duke' and the city is located in a forested area of the Netherlands. In 1196 the city was granted city rights after it already gained specific trade rights in 1185 which made the city rich. 's-Hertogenbosch is the birthplace of one of the greatest painters of the Dutch Renaissance period Hieronymus Bosch. Like many other cities in Holland the city was modernized after the Second World War with newly build quarters and a modern trainstation. Next to the towers, the beautiful city hall, fortresses and canals the main architectural wonder of 's-Hertogenbosch is the Saint John's Cathedral. It is the largest and highest Catholic Cathedral of the Netherlands with a length of 115m and a tower of 73 meters.
