Emerging as a cultural landmark in a unique confluence of nature and technology in rural Chengdu, the design of the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding by UDG Atelier Alpha develops on parametric and biomimetic principles. Mimicking a bamboo shoot, a staple of the region and a favourite of the giant panda, the tower's facade and top are further programmed for performative displays, akin to the sprouting of a bamboo shoot, to mark special occasions.
