Caution: ensure that you have fully inspected the carburetor’s condition and casting quality prior to installation. In my experience, the carburetor I received had a small pinhole from casting defects that allowed my fuel system to suck air. I patched the hole with JB Weld “Steel Stick” putty. I would have attempted to return it but I had already cut and modified the carburetor.

Warning: don’t hurt yourself or your equipment

KIPA carburetor has a 170 main jet and 48 pilot jet installed with the needle clip position at 4 out of 7. Other jets are included.

MY carb on MY WR400F was set with a 170 main jet and a 45 pilot jet for “cool” 40-65degree F weather at sea level.

My throttle needle “C” clip is set at position 6 out of 7 downwards from the top (rich)

Idle speed knob turned in fully then backed out 4 turns plus or minus 1. Make final adjustments when engine is warm.

Idle fuel screw is between 1 and 2.5 turns out. Mine is set around 1.5 turns out then adjusted by ear after the engine is at operating temp. I turned the screw in to lean the mix until the bike started to die then backed out a half turn to slightly richen the idle mixture. You want the mix as lean as the engine will allow at idle. This prevents engine “flooding” when you pull the choke and attempt to cold start the bike.
