Welcome to Codenames: Duet, the cooperative word-association game by Vlaada Chvátil and Scot Eaton, published by Czech Games Edition.
Work together to identify your agents while avoiding the deadly assassins!

🎯 Codenames: Duet is a two-player (or team-based) cooperative word game that plays in about 15–30 minutes.
Both players share a grid of code words but have different key cards showing which agents to find.

1️⃣ Setup:
Lay out a 5×5 grid of word cards (25 total).
Place the key card holder so that both players see opposite sides of the key card.
Each player’s side shows:
9 green agents (words to guess),
3 black assassins (dangerous words),
and 13 bystanders.
Together you share 15 total agents to find.

2️⃣ On Your Turn:
One player gives a one-word clue and a number indicating how many cards relate to that clue.
Example:
“Ocean — 2” (might hint at “Shark” and “Wave”).

The other player points to cards one by one, guessing:
If correct → cover the word with a green agent token.
If neutral → cover with a bystander (turn ends).
If assassin → immediate loss!

Players can stop guessing anytime or continue up to the clue’s number +1.

3️⃣ Timer & Missions:
You have 9 time tokens (turns) to complete all missions.
Each mistake costs a token.
You can play a single round or progress through a campaign of missions (map on the back of the rulebook) with different time limits.

4️⃣ Winning the Game:
You both win if all 15 agents are found before running out of time.
Lose immediately if any assassin is revealed!

💡 Tips & Strategy
Choose broad but clear clues — avoid overlaps that lead to assassins.
Use plural clues (“Animals”) to link multiple agents.
Track which words your partner might misread.
Play multiple rounds — it’s fast and gets funnier each time.
