This was one of the biggest swells of th3 2021-22 season. I was lucky to be out there for this swell. I enlisted the help of multi World Champion Wave Skier, Pablo Airways, to help me film while I fly my drone.
This was Rafael Tapia taking a brutal beating February 24, 2022. There were 65 foot wave everywhere, and Rafa took the first set wave of the set. The first wave can be the cleanest, and at times the biggest wave of the set. However, if you fall on that first wave, you could be in for the beatdown of your life. After the safety crew made several attempts at rescuing Rafa from the harsh whoopin, Rafa was just too deep in the wave to get a good attempt at a rescue.
After what feels like an hour, Rafa was finally picked up. It didnt take long for Rafa to shake off the experience, and returned to surf shortly after this.
