Albany, N.Y., May 7--As the state Legislature today began approving a final 2025-2026 state budget, Senator Tom O'Mara (R,C-Big Flats), Ranking Member on the Senate Finance Committee, criticized New York's budget adoption process and the ongoing focus by Governor Hochul and the Democrat-led State Legislature on out-of-control state spending.
"The spending is out of control in this state. It continues to grow by leaps and bounds every year," said O'Mara, noting that the state budget will have increased by at least $90 billion under one-party control of state government since 2018. "The process is flawed."
O'Mara stressed that the current budget adoption process fails to provide individual legislators, and the public, sufficient time to fully review and debate budget legislation before it's voted on.
