Nikko is a small city in Japan’s Tochigi Prefecture, in the mountains north of Tokyo. Popular travel periods are May and Aug–Nov. The humid continental climate creates snowy winters, wet summers and especially rainy periods Apr–Jun and Sep–Oct. The Shunki Reitaisai Spring Festival (May) and the Shuki Taisai Autumn Festival (Oct) are events held at the Toshogu shrine that are widely attended and feature large processions of samurai warriors.
