I have been waiting for 6 years now for someone to make a protection plate to defend the vulnerable side stand switch from being destroyed by rocks. BMW have not changed this switch and no aftermarket company have produced a protection plate for the side stand switch. After personally having had 4 different switches on 3 different bikes brake while riding I decided to make my own protection plate as I am heading for another ride in Africa. This time I will be riding from Cape to Cairo and there will be some rough roads. Hopefully my protection plate will work.
I have been very lucky that the side stand switch never broke as I were in a critical corner or while passing other vehicles. When the switch brakes the engine cuts out and dies and you better grab a handful of clutch when this happens.
