In previous video we studied about Bulk Density and formula of bulk density.

In today’s session, we will learn how bulk density effects the quality and cost of the product. And why it is so important to measure bulk density of every batch.

When you make a batch of washing powder most important parameter is proper mixing of your batch. Your product must be mixed properly.

How can we check the proper mixing???

We will take 4 samples from 4 points and will measure the Bulk density of those 4 samples. If the Bulk density of 4 samples is same then mixing of our product is same. If the bulk density of above sample is not same then mixing is improper.

BD is same = proper mixing
BD is not same = improper mixing.

How bulk density effects the quality of our product?

Bulk density does not affect the quality of our product directly. But indirectly it affects.
HOW?
Normally, when we wash cloths, we take the volume of powder by a spoon or a scoop not in mass in grams, and drop it in washing machine. If the Bulk density of our product is too low it means lower mass (weight) in grams will be used in machine that will eventually decrease the cleaning efficiency, and the customer will think that powder is not of good quality. If the Bulk density is too high then more grams of powder will be used which leads to wastage of our product.

My recommendation is that the Bulk Density of our product should be average not too low and not too high. It should be in between 500 to 600g/liter

In previous video we started Physical Properties of washing powder in which we discussed the 1st and important physical property named “fragrance”.

In today’s video the 2nd property named Bulk Density will be discussed briefly.

The BD (bulk density) is that parameter of washing powder which tells us about the volume of Powder.
If BD is higher then the Volume is lower and If the Bd is Lower, the volume will be higher.

The formula of Bulk Density is mass divided by volume. In mathematical form we can say:
Bulk Density=Mass/Volume
It is normally measured in gram/liter.

I have measured the BD of Some brands as follows:
Surf Excel = 550 to 600g/liter (Premium Brand)
Bright = 550 to 600g/liter (Premium Brand)
Bonus = 700 to 750g/liter (Economical Brand)
Sunlight = 750 to 800g/liter (Economical Brand)

If you noted from above, we can see that premium brands have relatively lower bd it means that the premium brand’s volumes are higher than the economical brands.
