Maritime law expert Jay Batongbacal rejected Monday as without basis Sen. Rodante Marcoleta’s claim that the Philippine should give up the Kalayaan Island Group “because it is outside the exclusive economic zone.”
Batongbacal earlier said the KIG has long been occupied by the Philippines and is considered Philippine territory.
Giving up Kalayaan Island Group would mean China would take over and would claim even more territory including Palawan, he said.
“Hindi sila titigil dahil in-a-eye nila ang Palawan mismo. Ang nine-dash line gumalaw na para sakupin ang Palawan. Pag binigay mo ‘yan, mas marami pang hihingin,” he said.
