Her passion for drums led her alongside many steep paths and winding roads, but in the end Sun-Mi Hang landed in Amsterdam. From out here the conquers Europe with her inviting music en her challenging style of playing, that’s both progressive as well as rooted in tradition.
Sun-Mi Hong has mastered the sounds and techniques of traditional jazz drumming, but she’s gladly willing to forge new paths. On her album A Self-Strewn Portrait we hear catchy melodies alongside impressionistic patterns, performed with freedom by a list of international superstars
Sources of inspiration: Brian Blade, Wayne Shorter, Elvin Jones, Tony Williams
