Expressing grief over the Delhi fire tragedy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Sunday that an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh would be given to the next of kin of the deceased in the Delhi hospital blaze, which claimed the lives of seven newborns.
A massive fire broke out at a children’s hospital in the Vivek Vihar area of East Delhi on Saturday night. The Delhi Police has filed an FIR against Naveen Chinchi, the proprietor of Baby Care New Born Hospital, under IPC sections 336, 304A, and 34. Investigations are underway to determine if the hospital possessed a fire NOC. The owner of the hospital is reportedly absconding. Meanwhile, Lt Governor VK Saxena has directed Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar to “institute an inquiry” into the east Delhi hospital fire.
“The fire tragedy at a hospital in Delhi is heart-rending. My thoughts are with the bereaved families in this incredibly difficult time. I pray that those injured recover at the earliest,” PM Modi wrote in a post on microblogging website X. “In the wake of the fire tragedy at a hospital in Delhi, the Prime Minister has announced that an ex gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. Rs. 50,000 would be given to each of those injured,” the Prime Minister’s Office said.
