Sorry about 10 months of me being missing. Towards the end, I think YouTube broke my passion for music and I just didn't bother uploading content anymore, so...yeah. Also, this year was among the busiest times of my life (my senior year of university), and so I decided that my hobby would be taking a possibly permanent back seat.

It was only until I had graduated in mid-May that I could finally sit down with this commission and complete it. My greatest thanks to Kim of ‪@MoonshineAnimations‬ for hiring me to write for Pippa and for being so patient along the way; it was an invaluable experience and got me on my feet again after a very long time. I really enjoyed my time with this and I hope it shows through the music. Being given absolute control over what I could do with the reference material (Pippa's song "Pippa the Ripper"    • [Original Song] Pippa the Ripper  ) helped, but when there was only a few distinct sections within the original, it took some creativity to fill 4 minutes of time with fresh variations of the three melodies I picked out.

The piece is divided into four sections, divided into chapters (like a novel!). There are brief explanations below, but most of the information will be presented within the video (so you'll be forced to read it instead hehe).

0:00-0:52 Prologue
A solo piano affair to start everything off. Why? I just wanted to be on video again lol.

0:52-1:29 Chapter I - "I'll be the shining star to light the way."
I wasn't sure what to call each section. If I ever wrote a "Symphony No. 1," for example, I'd have to beat Beethoven and Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 1s in a marketing battle, and I'm a few hundred years behind on that front, unfortunately. However, I thought parts of Pippa's lyrics in "Pippa the Ripper" were suitable for title material, and so here we are.

The amount of piano in my compositions have gone up by 100% (from no piano to a lot of piano lol), and it's completely inspired by my experiences with Genshin's OST as well as soundtracks to anime like Aquatope on White Sand (which I just rewatched; I give it my highest recommendation!). It's amazing how many different ways you can write using just piano, a small chamber string ensemble, and various woodwind instruments, and I tried to use these musical tools as much as possible this time around.

1:29-2:51 Chapter II - "Here I come, a mega idol."
The oboe has always been my favorite instrument, and after hearing the third movement of "Liz and the Blue Bird" (   • Liz to Aoi Tori (Liz and The Blue Bird) En...  ) a few years back, I was inspired to write an oboe and flute duet for this commission. Unfortunately, the flute didn't really sound right with the parts I had in mind, and was replaced with a cello solo instead. In my head, the two parts were a conversation between two contrasting voices and the cello's dark voice was a stronger choice.

2:51-4:15 Chapter III - "A virtual space where I can belong."
The first part of this chapter (before the key change) was actually the first thing I composed for the commission. It was in a sad state for a while, and I had considered trashing the entire thing, but after some adjustments to the instrumentation, additional harmonies, and the addition of electric guitar, it was in acceptable condition. The second part of this chapter was the last thing I wrote for the commission, and it was done over the span of two nights. The first night I had no idea how to end the entire piece, and the second night was spent experimenting with different endings until I found something appropriate. I suck at endings, and so this was the most difficult part of the process to complete imo.

I'm really proud of what I've made...but I can't wait to come back after a half year and otsucringe at all the dumb mistakes I'll undoubtedly be able to spot by then lol. Until then, 楽しんでくださいね～
