Cockpit view of Cessna P210 taking-off from Peyresourde altiport @5200ft altitude then landing at Bagneres de Luchon grass airfield @ 2000ft elevation down at the valley only eight minutes later, after one circuit at each of the two aerodromes.
They are only 7 nm apart from one another. The landing gear is kept extended and flaps 10 selected throughout the flight to facilitate required steep descent profile while maintaining some engine power. Turn captions on for running comment
LFIP Runway 470x20m , slope 9.5 degrees
LFCB runway 750x50m, grass, 590m landing distance available
Due to short runway and downslope at LFIP, full take-off power must be verified before rolling since aborting take-off while rolling downhill would be hazardous. Airfield requires precise technique. It is prohibited for non-UL aircraft unless French Mountain rating or Qualification de Site is held by pilot. Due to slope landing and take-off must be in opposite directions.
The site is run by Peyragudes Air Club http://www.peyragudes-air-club.fr/# in collaboration with the Peyragudes ski resort. Watch NOTAMS for frequent closing in winter season
LFCB is surrounded by terrain and requires a special circuit. Read AIP and NOTAMS and use with cuation. Beware of glider and parasail traffic and frequent glider winching on the runway.
The aerodrome at Bagneres de Luchon is run by Aeroclub de Luchon http://aeroluchon.fr/
The Cessna P210 Pressurized Centurion is a 200KTS, high-altitude, 4000lb, six-seat aircraft and normally uses longer runways.
