For nearly two thousand years, the Meitei kings of Kangleipak (Manipur) ruled through advanced systems of governance, religion, military organization, and culture—long before colonial rule or modern Indian statehood. From Nongda Lairen Pakhangba, the founder of the Meitei state, to later rulers who introduced written administrative codes, defended the kingdom against repeated Burmese invasions, and shaped Sanamahism, these kings played a decisive role in Northeast Indian history.
Yet, much of this powerful legacy remains absent from mainstream school textbooks. This video uncovers the forgotten Meitei kings, their political institutions, sacred land systems, architectural achievements like the Kangla Palace, and the deeper reasons why their stories were gradually pushed out of national historical narratives.
