Описание: Christine Pascal has one semester left and one plan: graduate, get out, and put distance between herself and a family she is tired of carrying. Then her mother has a stroke, and everything she was running toward stops being an option.

What follows is not a clean recovery story. Christine pulls inward, gets sharper with the people closest to her, and runs out of room to avoid the question she has been dodging: whether to stay closed off, or to bet on something larger than herself. The title is not accidental. Blaise Pascal argued that since we all lose eventually, the only rational move is to bet on something we can actually win. Christine has to decide whether she agrees.
