Mickey Mania 7 is a Famicom bootleg port of Mickey Mania, developed by Ei-How Yang and J.Y. Company, and honestly, it's a pretty faithful port!
The graphics, while not the best looking, have been ported over pretty well for the most part! Heck, the ropes and the tower level are pretty impressive for the NES/Famicom, especially for a bootleg port!
As for the music, well, it's about what you'd expect from Ei-How Yang, but I don't think the music sounds bad at all, since it's pretty much the Mickey Mania music, just in a typical bootleg fashion.
And as for the gameplay? Well, I haven't played a whole lot of the original Mickey Mania, but even though it doesn't feel the most accurate to the original, I'd say it plays really well for a bootleg! What makes this bootleg port different though in it's gameplay, is the knockback when getting hit which wasn't present in the original, and the same went for Ei-How Yang's Toy Story Famicom port as well, which heck, even that had the same physics if I remember correctly. Though I don't find the knockback really that bad to be honest, it definitely adds challenge to this port, but considering how lengthy and challenging the original game was, maybe it was for the better that the official Mickey Mania didn't have knockback, but I don't know, I just really liked the knockback detail here, for whatever reason. By the way, the Stars that acted as Extra Hit Points as mentioned in the Help Screen of this game? That's a lie, since they just give you 10 marbles, but hey, I ain't complaining for a bootleg port that gives you the option to have 30 lives.
Oh yeah, speaking of length, there really isn't much content here, only 5 stages! I don't know how much the official Mickey Mania had since again, I barely played the official Mickey Mania, but it definitely had a lot more levels than just 5 stages! Oh, and the last level is the only boss in the game, and of course it's the final boss that was in Mickey Mania from what I checked from the official game's SNES longplay. I'd say the final boss was also ported faithfully, albeit with the wrecking balls added in replacement for the obstacles that come down every so often in the official game's final boss.
So, despite missing a bunch of the levels, what did I think of this port as of 2025? I still think it's pretty good, honestly! Still really enjoy the graphics (even if a little on the crusty side), the great music even if it doesn't hold up as well as the Genesis & SNES versions, and even the gameplay and levels as previously mentioned! I'm still glad I kept onto my original copy of the game after many years, and testing it on other Famiclones for fun.
I'm also aware there's a graphical hack of this game called China Rabbit Baby, which replaces Mickey Mouse's sprites with Buster Bunny from Tiny Toons, but I don't own a cartridge of that hack yet, and it ain't really anything particularly special.
Played on the Power Games Super Entertainment System.
