Cannon Beach is a picturesque coastal town known for its wide sandy shoreline, dramatic sea stacks, and relaxed, small-town charm. The town takes its name from a historic shipwreck whose cannon washed ashore in the 1800s, giving the beach its distinctive name. You also might recognize some of the scenery from movies filmed in the area over the years!
The iconic Haystack Rock is a towering 235-foot sea stack that rises dramatically from the shoreline and serves as one of the most important coastal wildlife habitats in the Pacific Northwest. Designated as part of the Oregon Islands National Wildlife Refuge, it functions as a protected bird sanctuary where species such as tufted puffins, common murres, and cormorants nest and roost each year. At low tide, the tidepools surrounding Haystack Rock reveal colorful starfish, anemones, and other marine life, making the area a natural outdoor classroom for visitors.
Ecola State Park is known for its lush coastal rainforest, windswept bluffs, beaches with tide pools, and dramatic overlooks where visitors can spot sea stacks, migrating gray whales, and seabirds from the clifftops. Winding trails lead through towering Sitka spruce and moss-covered forest to secluded viewpoints and quiet coves.
Seaside, Oregon is a classic coastal town known for its lively boardwalk, wide sandy beach, and laid-back vacation atmosphere. The town sits along a flat, walkable stretch of shoreline, making it one of the most accessible beaches on the Oregon Coast for swimming, beachcombing, and sunset walks. Its historic promenade runs parallel to the ocean and is lined with arcades, small shops, saltwater taffy stores, and casual eateries, giving the area a nostalgic seaside charm. With the Coast Range rising softly in the background and the steady rhythm of Pacific waves in front, Seaside blends natural beauty with family-friendly fun in a uniquely relaxed beach town setting.
