Kelso Civic Week 1954 - Common Riding/Kelso Laddie

Tom Laing is the Kelso Laddie, Jock Hume is the Right Hand Man, and Wat Lendels is the Left Hand Man.

Common Ridings are a boundary marking custom on horseback, held at locations across the Scottish Borders, dating back to when locals needed to protect their lands from encroachment. The area suffered from centuries of raiding and reiving between local families and the English.

The original footage from 1954, although being in colour, was still of a low quality. The colour balance was off, the image quite blurry and there was a fair amount of noise.

I have cleaned it up using modern software, getting the colours back to how they looked originally, and applying some sharpening to the overall image.

I then denoised the image and finally upscaled it from its original 720 resolution to 1080.

It has been digitally restored by his grandson.
