El SEAT 127 se presentó en 1972 con una carrocería inicial de dos puertas y maletero independiente. No obstante, a finales de ese mismo año apareció la versión de tres puertas, con un portón trasero que convertía el primer SEAT de tracción delantera en todo un polivalente. Así, la capacidad del maletero de 365 litros se podía ampliar en el tres puertas hasta los 1.000 litros, abatiendo los asientos posteriores. Este vídeo compara las dos variantes de carrocería y muestra la gran polivalencia del 127 con tres puertas.

SEAT 127, with two or three doors. The SEAT 127 was introduced in 1972 with an initial two-door body and a separate boot. However, at the end of that same year the three-door version appeared, with a tailgate that turned the first front-wheel drive SEAT into a versatile one. Thus, the capacity of the 365-liter boot could be expanded in the three doors to 1,000 liters, lowering the rear seats.
