Built as a training aid for firefighters, the scale model represents multiple connected rooms inside a structure. A controlled fire is started in one compartment, allowing heat and smoke to spread naturally through the enclosed spaces just as they would inside a real building.

As the fire burns, it produces hot smoke filled with unburned combustible gases. These gases travel into neighboring compartments and continue accumulating even in areas where there are no visible flames. To the untrained eye, the smoke may appear harmless compared to the fire itself, but it still contains a significant amount of stored chemical energy.

When the smoke rich gases finally mix with enough oxygen and encounter an ignition source, they ignite almost instantly. The resulting pressure wave can create a smoke explosion powerful enough to dislodge doors, windows, or sections of a structure, which is exactly why firefighters study fire behavior and ventilation so carefully during emergency operations.
