Durgapur Police ruled out that a 2nd year medical student was allegedly gang-raped in a forest near pvt hospital. Police said that only one person was involved. Police commissioner of Asansol-Durgapur Police, said only one person was involved in sexual assault based on the statement given by the survivor and physical evidence.

"According to the statement given by the woman and based on the physical evidence, it has been established so far that, only one person was involved in the sexual assault. An investigation is under progress. Clothes of one accused have been collected and sent to a forensic laboratory.": Sunil Kumar Chowdhury, West Bengal Police

Chowdhury also said a team visited the spot to recreate the crime and that role of the woman's friend was also under the scanner.

"The presence of the five arrested accused was established in our investigation. The mobile phone of the survivor was recovered during our probe. We visited the crime scene along with the friend of the woman. Reconstruction of the crime was conducted. We are examining everything. We are awaiting forensic and medical reports. The role of the woman's friend also seems to be doubtful. He is under the scanner. We are probing his activities too. We are questioning him too.": Sunil Kumar Chowdhury, West Bengal Police
